Submission 1

In the first week I have learnt that I have developed some consulting skills in life but others are still yet underdeveloped. I am generally good at problem solving but my communication skills still require a bit of more focus. I have learnt how to analyse my skills. Therefore, I am now able to come up with a personal development plan to help me acquire new skills. I have also learnt the factors to consider when I am making decisions at the managerial level. As a manager, research is an integral part of my work. Through this course I have learnt how to collect data and conduct both qualitative and quantitative research. Soon, I will be looking for a job in a large multinational. This course has helped me to know how to organize myself and how to present my knowledge effectively through a C.V. I have also learnt to find out what employer in the market are in interested when they are hiring. I now know how to prepare effectively for interviews.

The feedback I am getting from the tutors is generally positive. My tutors think and feel that I am learning analytical employability and consulting skills rather well. I have been able to carry out the major industry analyses such as macro and micro analysis industry features, stakeholder analysis, qualitative analysis of information, identifying principle issues and developing recommendations. The tutors have also informed me that I should learn the differences and similarities in trends in different industries. I have also not quite understood all the factors that contribute to industry competition.

Therefore, together with some of my peers, we are currently studying technology as a differentiator in industry competition. Afterwards, we are planning to also find some time and discus what everyone has learnt with regard to other factors such as market presence, the breadth of service offering, client relationship, and strength of brands, international presence and cost strategy. Honestly, most of my peer think that I am doing better than them. I do not feel the same way too because in some of the analytical areas I am currently struggling with, some of them have no problem at all. Therefore, the feedback from peers is largely positive.

In the following term I am planning to spend more time studying. One of the main lessons that I am currently learning is the role of teamwork in the development and comprehension of knowledge. When people are studying together they are able to assist each other depending on their weaknesses and strengths. I appreciate the fact that I am good in some subjects, but then some of my peers are also very good in subjects that I am not good in. Therefore, collaboration with be a major focus for me in the next term. I also plan to consult more with my tutors. The coming term I will definitely utilize them more than I did this term.

Submission 2

According to the New Cars Industry profile: global (2015), the new cars industry is worth US $1,901 billion. This value is expected to increase to US $2,442 by the year 2018. In comparison to 2013, this will be a 28.5% growth. In 2013, the industry sold 62,064. 1 thousand cars. In 2018, the industry expects to grow the number of new cars sold by 24.7%. The Asia-pacific region is currently accounting for 49% of the current market value of the industry. The General Motors Company is the global industry leader with a market share of 11.5%. The other leading companies include Ford Motor Company, Toyota Motor Corporation, and Volkswagen AG (New Cars Industry Profile: Global, 2014).

Based on 'Global Life Insurance (2015), the global life insurance industry is worth US $2,531.6 billion. This figure is expect to increase by 28.4% by 219. The largest segment of the market is life insurance which is responsible for 66.2% of the industry’s value. The Asia-Pacific industry with a market value of 36.7%, is the largest geographical segment. The leading global life insurance company is Metlife Inc. with a 4.2% share of the market. The extent of competitive rivalry is very high as a results of large incumbents. Other leading companies in the global life insurance industry include AXA 19, Japan Post Group, and Prudential Financial Inc. (Global Life Insurance, 2015).

According to Global PCs Industry Profile (2014), the global PC industry is currently worth US $1482.22 billion. In 2019, the market value is expected to reduce by 11.8%. In comparison to 2013, the market volume of the industry in 2014 shrunk by 1.3%. By 2019, it is expected that the volume of PC manufactured and sold will have reduced further by 4.9%. Currently, the mobile pc is the leading category segment in the industry and is responsible for 57.2% of the volume of the market as of the end of 2014. Americans are accounting for 38% of all the PCs sold in the world. The PC industry has a large number of sizeable companies competing for market share. Global PCs Industry Profile (2014) notes that there is a notable struggle in the industry for the companies to differentiate their product offering. However, the rivalry in the industry is reduced because the major players in the market are also interested in other diverse businesses. Some of the leading companies include Acer, Dell, HP, and Lenovo (Global PCs Industry Profile, 2014).

I argue that my team mates should select the global new cars industry. One of the main reason why I recommend this industry is because of my love of cars and automotive technology. Secondly, I seem to find more credible information online about the new cars industry than the other two. Thirdly, and may be most importantly is an interesting industry dynamic that I would like to study. The market value of the industry is growing and by 2019, it is expected to have grown by more than 28%. On the other hand, car manufacturers are struggling to produce cars in some of previously leading markets. Just to mention, in accordance with (New Cars Industry Profile: Australia', 2014), GM Holden and Ford are no longer manufacturing in Australia. The report adds that past 2017, Toyota will also pull out. I would like to study this phenomenon and find out where these large profitable automotive companies are shifting their production to. I would like to interview three managers, one from GM, Ford and Toyota, respectively.

Submission 3

As a marketing manager in a branch of a multinational organization, I would be in charge of the activities, strategies and plans of the marketing department. One important skill for a marketing manager is the ability to communicate effectively. The marketing manager needs to be able to identify the target audience (Ngo & O'Cass, 2012). As a marketing manager I will have to communicate with different types of audiences, ranging from subordinates, the senior management and even external stakeholders. In general I consider myself to be an excellent communicator for several reasons. I am able to establish the objectives relate to the message I am ting to pass across. I always know what I want to achieve before I begin speaking. I also know how to come up with compelling messages. This has helped me to be able to draw the attention of those I am addressing. I use different channels of communication depending on the audience and the need of communication. I understand that sometimes I have to use personal channels of communication such as sending emails. However, in order to achieve other communication objectives, I use non-personal media such as when using paid media for advertising. In my previous work experience I have also develop knowledge on how to come up with communication budgets. I have to determine how much I wan to spend when passing across a message. However, the most important communication skill for me is the ability to measure the effectiveness of communication. By using measures like message recall and message frequency, I am able to determine when to make changes.

Project management is another important skill for a marketing manager (Mello, 2014). . As a marketing manager I will be required to manage marketing projects for the organisation. I am an organized person and I can multi-task effectively. According to Bamberger, Biron, & Meshoulam (2014), when a manager is organized at the personal level, he or she is more likely to manage a project successfully. When I am in charge of a project, I try to spend time first gathering all the information and resources I need for the project. This helps me to ensure that I do not spend a lot of time looking for information. Most people who have managed considerably large marketing projects realise the importance of motivation and leadership. I am good at motivating people to follow what I want to do even if they may not have had the motivation to from the start. I am also a good negotiator. With good communication skills I have also nurtured the skill of cutting deals and negotiating. Projects are also about details. Therefore, I try to be as meticulous as possible when I am in charge of a project. I am also able to spot problems in a project when they are in their formative stages. According to Bamberger, Biron, & Meshoulam (2014), even with all proper prior preparation, problems always come up when executing projects. By preparing a risk management profile from the beginning, I can tell when problems are forming.

A marketing manager is bombarded with lots of information. Some of it is very essential while some is generic and relates to routine operations. Therefore, he or she needs to be have analytical skills (Mello, 2014). Over the years, I have developed my analytical skills to articulate and visualize problems and come up with solutions. My analytical skills are evident from my ability to come up with meaningful reports of the assignments and projects I have handled. Additionally, I am also a good collector of useful information. Having sufficient information regarding any phenomenon is essential for handling problems. After gathering information, I come up with a process (mainly in steps form) that helps me to know how to approach the problem. If the process does not work, I modify the steps until I get the perfect approach for dealing with the issue.

Although I have strong communication, project development and analytical skills, I lack sufficient technical, social media, and process design skills are not top-notch. Therefore, by designing a personal development plan, I can address the skills gap.
